We dumped Verizon- for FirstNet!

Writer: James GarberJames Garber

This is really old news. But if you are a first responder, healthcare provider, or do some work with the amateur radio emergency service (probably others too, like utility companies, etc) you should make the switch to FirstNet cell service.

We switched to FirstNet on Halloween 2019 after decades with Verizon. Why? Verizon prices kept creeping up over the years. Toward the end of the contract, we were spending $370/ month. The speeds were slow and it was just "ok". Plus, during big emergencies we wanted to be able to make a phone call if we needed too. Typically cell networks get overwhelmed with people using their phones all at once. The cell network doesn't "go down", but it gets overwhelmed and doesn't allow more people to use the system. Verizon advertised a preemption service for first responders, but when you call Verizon, they don't have a clue what that is or what it means.

Through my employer, we were turned on to FirstNet. FirstNet is a congressionally approved cell network just for first responders and healthcare workers ( and other groups). By utilizing Band 14 of the ATT spectrum, first responders have a dedicated network to be able to carry out the business of helping others. When commercial cell networks are overwhelmed, FirstNet is there and it works.

I trialed FirstNet for a while and found the coverage to be superior and the speeds much, much faster than Verizon. Trust me, I was nervous about switching, because Verizon was comfortable and they always portray themselves as being the best out there. I even wrote blog posts for Verizon at one point! I was sold on the network. But as I soon found out and continue to find out, FirstNet is far superior to Verizon in every way.

Recently, Jess spent the weekend in Hocking Hills, Ohio. She had perfect coverage throughout the hills and valleys, indoor and outdoor. Her friends had minimal or no coverage on Verizon. Her mother lives in a very rural area southwest of St Louis. Verizon provided zero coverage there, but FirstNet has blanket coverage in the small town and the countryside around it. Closer to home, in our basement, I had maybe 1-2 bars of Verizon coverage and would miss calls routinely. Same in our pole barn. FirstNet, on the other hand is much better. I have 4 bars of signal and download speeds greater than 60mbps! Speeds in the office where I work used to average 10-20 mbps down with Verizon, but on FirstNet I routinely get 200 mbps download speed.

The cost? Much better. We spend over $120 less per month with FirstNet.

So, if you were in the market and qualify, I strongly suggest getting FirstNet service. You won't regret it. Give Andrew Lewis a call to set you up at 567-213-8807.

Note: I am not a paid spokesman and won't receive any credit if you switch. I just want you to get the best bang for your buck!
