Evan Update 5/23/2021

Writer: James GarberJames Garber

It has been a couple weeks since the last update. I guess that is a good thing. While life is busier than ever with everything going on, Evan's journey has been pretty smooth in the past couple weeks. During this phase, he sees the doctors every 10 days for treatment. The past two appointments have included IV vincristine and escalating doses of methotrexate. This coming Wednesday, he returns for bloodwork, then on Thursday he gets an LP and IT methotrexate, and IV methotrexate and vincristine. Ten days after that, he gets his last treatment of the Inter-maintenance II phase. Then, if the Lord is willing, we enter maintenance. Maintenance is the phase we have been working hard to get to. In general, it will entail just one doctor visit per month for labs and chemo. He will be on oral chemo the whole time with bursts of steroids in there somewhere. Maintenance lasts for a year as long as things are going well.

We received the tentative schedule for maintenance. We know it all can change depending on Evan and how his body is doing, but it is so nice to have just a few dates on the calendar versus multiple daily appointments each week. We are getting there.

A few updates, maybe a few nuggets ago, I made mention of that feeling that something big is on the horizon. Something on a global or national scale. Many still feel this way. While we are going through the storm with Evan, something on a much larger scale is coming. Just look at the Colonial pipeline ransomware attack. Reportedly they paid $90m in order to take the system back over. It is a lucrative thing, so why won't enemy entities within our own country and those actors outside of America take down the power grid for a billion dollars, 50 billions dollars? It can happen. Couple that with the drought situation in the west and other places, decreasing farm yields, disrupted supply chains, and this is a recipe for life- changing problems. Watch for key words like "climate emergency" and "full stop" or "reset". Those will be indicators that something is imminent.

So what do we do? Accept Jesus and know Him. You don't have to be perfect, I am certainly not. But get to know Him intimately. Not a Sunday morning kind of thing or in a traditional churchy kind of way, but personally and deeply. He is the only way to escape this life with any kind of certainty and security.

Don't hoard, but stock up on essentials. Have a way to get energy into your home for a long period of time. Generator, solar, etc. Buy up extra food and water. It only makes sense even if nothing happens, but rest assured you will need it. Buy batteries, fuel, medications that you might need to survive for a month without electricity.

You never know what tomorrow will bring. No need to be afraid either. God doesn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind. Use those tools to help your family today, not tomorrow. If you wait, you might get left behind.
