Evan continues to do very well on his 28- day continuous blinatumomab infusion. Monday, he had a needle change and a new med bag started. He did very well, despite the pain of the needle change. We/ they apply Emla cream to help numb the pain but it doesn't take it all away, unfortunately. The only good part is that he gets a "poke prize" each and every time he has to get poked- for anything. So he has built up quite the toy collection in the last seven months. And these aren't cheap toys! They are very nice.
His WBC was 2.9 Monday, but the rest of his labs looked great, and NO lymphoblasts in his peripheral blood. He hasn't had any blasts since after the first few days of induction, which is a good sign the cancer is gone. But we will continue to monitor that for years, for any sign of relapse.
He goes back tomorrow for just a bag and battery change, but no needle change. So it's a quick appointment. He finally completes this phase next Wednesday and gets de-accessed. He said he had a dream last night that he didn't have any needles in and no "backpack" on and he could swim.
We know full well that so many out there have stories like Evan's. And so many have stories that are much worse than Evan's. We are blessed, truly. So please, continue to pray for Evan. He is a trooper, he is my hero. But please say a prayer for all the children who are affected by cancer. It is a merciless disease with a merciless cure.
